Value Evolved

Evolve (Turtle Rock Studios / 2K) made such a stir with its byzantine DLC pricing announcements prior to release that the game's creative director had to defend it.  Hot off the heels of another high-profile and insanely-complex SKU matrix, it's hard to scrounge up any goodwill or nuance toward the whole situation.

To their credit, the developer has expressed an aversion toward "pay-to-win" approaches to DLC, and has guaranteed all future maps and game modes will be available for free to all players.  Fine, but the DLC options aren't limited to cosmetic items and include character classes from both the hunter and monster factions.  Looking at the Steam page for Evolve, I have no way of knowing what version I need to buy to get everything (or if such a version even exists).  Amazon and iTunes have 1-click buying options, while 2K has (inadvertently?) inflicted analysis paralysis.

I also need to mention the $100 'PC Monster Race' edition.  It's a play on the internet joke about the "PC Master Race"--PC gamers who are so particularly loyal to their platform of choice so as to look down on players of all other platforms.  Tasteless jokes referencing Nazi ideology are perhaps to be expected on the internet, but an ostensibly professional marketing team approved this copy while no one voiced any concerns over it.  Think on that for a moment.
